Countries that are Less Travelled

When a country doesn’t get much attraction from foreign tourists despite the beauty it has to offer, there must be really something wrong with it. It can either be a health threat or a threat to safety.

India

India is known for having different religions and beliefs that comes along with bizarre practices that leaves a visitor in awe or disgust. Although there are many friendly locals that are willing to welcome tourists, the streets of India are not entirely safe during night fall most especially to female foreign travelers. There are numerous unsolved rape cases or attempted ones in places like New Delhi, Rajasthan, and Goa. It is important to wear clothes that don’t show any skin that may attract rapists.

Zimbabwe

Although Zimbabwe is best known for the great Victoria Falls and the ancient ruins of the Munhmutapa Empire, this country doesn’t attract the interest of foreign tourists due to high rates of snatching, assaults, and robbery. Always keep your guards high whenever you visit this country and its best if you leave your priced possessions on a safe keep at the hotel.

South Africa

Whenever we think of Africa the first things that come into our mind are the great African safari, Nelson Mandela, pristine sandy beaches, and other beauties of Mother Earth. But all of that were shadowed by a proclamation that Africa is the rape capital of the world. But that doesn’t stop tourists from visiting the African wildlife. You too can have a successful African adventure as long as you practice caution and avoid strolling at night.

Middle East

Majority of the countries in the Middle East are always involved in international news because of war, bombings, rage, hijacking and other destructions of humanity. Despite the fact that Abu Dhabi and Dubai are struggling to put their nations on the map of best tourist destinations, neighboring countries like Algeria, Libya, Lebanon, and Pakistan always got something to fight about. Today, many people are speculating about the collision between Israel and Iran. So if you don’t want to be caught between the cross fires, at the mean time, stay away from these countries.

Brazil

Are you surprised? Well don’t be. Brazil is like a sugar coated country that covers its flaws with famous Brazilian bikini bods and white sand beaches. This country is a literal translation of The Rich and the Poor Divide. Although Brazil’s economy seems to be propelling forward, the oppressed part of the society continues to be oppressed. As a result, crimes of kidnapping, corruption, and prostitution still continue to rise.

Haiti

Even before Haiti was struck by a very devastating earthquake back in 2010, crimes that arise from poverty already existed. As famine continues to prevail, it pushes the people to do hideous crimes like riots on the streets, civil turmoil, and escaped notorious prisons lingering on the streets. Another thing that scares the tourists is the voodoos and witchcrafts which Haitian people are known for.

Travel and Eat: Top Ten Famous Street Foods across the Globe

There is something incredibly raw and real about sinking your teeth into a hot, sizzling and novel piece of food that you’ve just plucked off some cart on a street corner in an unknown city. Every country has them; little food carts, stands or stalls, sometimes not much more than a charcoal fire and a pot, but no matter where you are in the world, the allure of street food is undeniable.

So for all you global citizens, here are the top ten most famous street foods from the different corners of the globe.

1. Crepes

Crepes are just one of the many delicious treats you can find while wandering through the winding streets of Paris. For just a couple of Euros, you can sample crepes as they were meant to be eaten; either the well-known sweet variety with butter and sugar, or a more savoury version laden with ham and dripping with cheese.

2. Hotdog

The good old, all-American hotdog hardly needs an introduction, and the combination of its familiar white bun crispy onions, and fat sausage slathered in mustard, ketchup and mayonnaise is famous all over the world. Try one with an unusual topping like coleslaw, sauerkraut or even avocado.

3. Pho bo

Pho bo is fast food at its healthiest, and this nourishing snack can be found anywhere in Vietnam, although the city of Hanoi is best known for the dish, being that it originated there. It’s a beef noodle soup with tantalizingly fresh ingredients like mint leaves, lime, bean sprouts, spicy chilli sauce and so much more.

4. Currywurst

If you’ve ever been to Berlin, you’ve probably sampled one of these satisfying German sausages. It is a simple yet delicious snack, made with a sumptuously fat pork sausage topped with curry sauce and served with a side fries or thick slice of bread.

5. Falafel

Falafels can be found all throughout the Middle East, although they are generally thought to have originated in Egypt. These tasty little balls of ground and fried chickpeas are served in pita breads with toppings like pickled vegetables, salad, hot sauce and tahini.

6. Burrito

The Mexican burrito has become a favourite worldwide, and for good reason. These tortillas filled with savoury goodness like refried beans, cheese, meat, salsa, chilli, avocado and sour cream are the ultimate snack or meal on the go.

7. Kebab

Kebab, in the Middle East and Turkey, is a general term for a wide variety of different meat dishes, from roasted and grilled to stewed. The kebab that we have come to know worldwide, however, is actually the Turkish döner kebab, a delicious garlicky type of pita sandwich, with either roasted lamb or chicken and plenty of hot sauce, garlic mayonnaise and fresh salad.

8. Poutine

Although Canada is not generally known for its culinary accomplishments, this is one Canadian street food you’ll want to sample. It’s an odd mix of French fries, gravy and cheese curds, which is surprisingly tasty. It also comes in other interesting variations with ingredients like lamb or truffles.

9. Spring rolls

The spring roll is one of the most popular Asian foods that has been adopted into Western culture, and almost every country from China to Australia has its own take on these crispy delicacies. The one that is best known, however, is the Chinese spring roll or egg roll, a deep-fried little dough wrap filled with cabbage, sprouts, pork and many other fresh ingredients.

10. Pani Puri

Pani puri is a popular Indian street food from Mumbai. It’s a crisply fried ball made from a mixture of wheat and urad dal four. After it has been fried, it is stuffed with a spicy filling of chopped onions, mashed potatoes and sweet chutney, along with a touch of mint dipping sauce.

Do Ayurveda Tours To India Make Sense?

Everyone has their own reason for travelling and seeing the world, which is a good thing because it means that not everyone wants to see the same thing or visit the same place. Having a valid reason for travel is a terrific justification for seeing more of the world and there are many different reasons why people would visit India. There is no doubt that spirituality features highly on the agenda for many people but there are also medical reasons why people would choose to visit India.

Ayurveda was created in India and it has a history that is as old and memorable as India itself. Ayurveda is an ancient form of healing but brings respite to not only the body but the mind as well. An Ayurveda tour is one where people travel from all over the world to arrive in Indian locations like Kerala to receive the ancient treatment.

Heal your body and mind with Ayurveda

Even though modern medicine is capable of doing so much, there has been a trend towards ancient remedies, which makes this style of tour very attractive. A typical Ayurveda tour will allow a guest to indulge in massages, facials, spas, wraps, scrubs, fitness assessment. There is also the opportunity to combine modern fitness elements with the ancient teachings and relaxation methods. It is easy to see that an Ayurveda trip can be a great way to relax or start a healing process to get healthier.

Away from the fitness and relaxation side, Ayurveda is also said to be effective in treating medical conditions with no need for injections or modern treatment. Some of the diseases that Ayurveda is said to assist with include acne, asthma, anxiety, depression, diabetes, flu, insomnia, skin problems and ulcers.

When it comes to medicinal practices, there will always be doubters and naysayers. It may well be that the treatments provided on this style of tour are not any better or worse for people than they would receive in their local environment. This can be missing the point though and often the psychological effect of taking a journey and opening yourself up to another culture is part of the process.

What should always be remembered about an Ayurveda trip is that it is entirely down to the person booking it. If someone has doubts or concerns about the trip, avoid it and enjoy a different style of holiday. However, if you are open to the benefits of Ayurveda, booking a trip to an Indian destination such as Kerala can be the first step in a great trip.

If you are planning on making the journey, knowing the best hotels in Kerala is important but of course, the best for you will depend on your budget, where you want to stay and what experience you want to have from the hotel.

Plenty of choice for Kerala accommodation

The Green House Home Stay hotel in Kerala is very highly recommended from a number of reputable sources and is well within the budget for most travellers. Accommodation here can cost between INR 500 and 1,500 per night. Another recommended hotel in Kerala is the Vintage Inn. A night at this hotel can be booked for INR 600 to 1,000. There is no doubt that there are very good budget hotels in Kerala and anyone looking to visit India without spending too much will still be able to find comfort and convenience. You may also opt for 5 star hotels in Munnar such as the Mountain Club or the Club Mahindra Lake View Munnar

The Vivanta by Taj – Kovalam is an extremely well regarded hotel, picking up awards in recent years but it is definitely for travellers who have more money to spend. A night in this hotel can cost anything between INR 6,000 and 25,000. The Green Woods Resort is another excellent hotel providing a fantastic experience for its guests but again, the cost of staying at this hotel may be beyond the budget of many. It costs between INR 5,000 and 23,000 for one evening’s stay.

There are many great tours, such as the Carnival Tour or the Musafir Day Tour to enjoy and attractions like The Tea Gardens or the numerous yoga retreats in Kerala. If you are seeking medicinal benefits, the cooler monsoon months of mid-July or October are recommended.

“A picture is worth a thousand words.”  A video can be worth a thousand pictures and be far more compelling than web pages or brochures full of text! A guide to Paris

Taking a holiday Paris can be a great vacation choice for families, couples and solo travellers alike. The city offers such a wide spectrum of sights, attractions and day-trips, so you won’t struggle to find something to keep every member of the family entertained. Paris is famous for being the city of love (with many of the most romantic love stories set there) but it’s not exclusive to honeymooners and loved up couples. Here is a list of some of the city’s best attractions and the type of people that would enjoy them.

The Eiffel tower – Best for: families, couples and solo travellers

This great attraction is perfect for all types of tourists visiting Paris. Kids will love getting the lift to the top and looking out of the city (as will the grown-ups too!) and looking out of the telescopes on the top floor. The attraction is moderately priced – but a great choice as it’s probably the most iconic landmark in the city. It’s also super romantic (for those couples reading) and is actually where Tom Cruise proposed to Katie Holmes! SO head there for a romantic afternoon looking over the city, brownie points for romance if you can schedule you trip in so you witness the beautiful sunset.

Musee de Louvre – Best for: couples and solo travellers

This iconic museum is another great place to visit in Paris. The glass triangle rising out of the ground is quite a sight to see if you’re visiting for the first time! Kids will love seeing the structure itself, but might not be up for queuing up and then keeping quiet whilst inside the museum itself (which is why we’ve recommended this to only couples and solo travellers).

Notre Dame Cathedral – Best for: couples, solo travellers and families

For those seeking a bit of culture, Notre Dame Cathedral is the perfect choice. Kids will love this building (because of the Disney film) but you’ll really enjoy this attraction if you’re a lover of history, as going inside the Cathedral and admiring all the fine glass work and architecture is incredible and quite an experience. Remember to dress respectfully if you plan on going to the top and enjoying the views, because the building is still a functioning church and a place of worship.

Disneyland – Best for: families and couples

Needless to say – this will be the attraction your kids can’t wait to go to if you visit Paris. The theme park is a short train ride (or drive) from the city centre, but there are plenty of hotel near the resort which you could transfer to. Couples will love this option too though – as there’s so much to see and do there!

Moulin Rouge – Best for: Couples and Solo travellers

The famous district of Paris (you may have seen the film) where the Can-Can dancers are on stage and the alcohol flows freely. It’s a great night out for couples and solo travellers, but some shows do have an age limit so be sure to check this out before you take the kids along.

What You Can Do to Avoid Bedbugs When Traveling on a Budget

The current age is probably one of the best time periods in recent years for travelers to find great bargains with very little effort. The internet allows everyone to compare prices and the travel packages offered by a variety of companies from the comfort of home. Many airlines, hotels, and cruise ship companies are offering discounts in order to attract customers during these difficult economic times. Because of these factors, many vacationers are getting some deals that they never expected to see in their lifetimes. This is the good news!

The flip side of the coin is that with some of those cheaper travel arrangements, there may be a slightly higher risk of coming into contact with the voracious little bedbug. A savvy travel shopper, however, will not let this keep them from enjoying a novel adventure for a fraction of the normal costs. By using the following tips, you should be able to return home after a great vacation without dragging in any unwanted visitors:

Make Smart Packing Decisions

Most people do not even consider bedbugs when making packing decisions, but some choices are crucial if you are going to be on the defensive against this microscopic enemy. The key is to avoid giving these pests anywhere to hide. The following actions will help you win keep bedbugs at bay:

  • Skip the duffle bags and soft-sided hanging bags and pack everything in luggage with a hard external surface.

  • Leave the canvas tennis shoes and other shoes made of fabric at home and rely on comfortable leather footwear instead.
  • Separate each daily outfit, including underwear, into zippered plastic bags within the suitcase.
  • Pack a small flashlight to closely inspect bedding, carpeting and upholstery, before bringing any item into a new place of lodging.
  • Do Your Travel Homework

It never pays to fly on a wing and a prayer, and travel is the same way. Even if you have no reason to suspect that there will be problem, it is a great idea to search the web for recent reviews on the places where you have made reservations. If bedbugs have been detected by a visitor at this location in the past, reports will usually surface. Calling the health department located nearest to the area to ask about any recent bedbug reports is also a great idea.

    Go the Extra Mile

Even if your travel seems to have been uninterrupted by bedbug drama, it is important to take a few extra precautionary measures to prevent this pest from entering your home once you return. The following are all excellent ideas:

  • Take suitcases straight to the laundry room and run clothing through a hot wash and dry cycle.
  • Dispose of any shopping bags from souvenir purchases in garbage cans outside of the home.
  • Do a nightly check of your own bedroom before retiring to catch any early signs of a bedbug problem, such as reddish-brown spotting on the mattresses or sheets.

  • Thrifty travelers should be rewarded for their efforts at budgeting and should never have to spend the dollars saved on a great vacation to pay an exterminator once they return home. By using these tips to thwart any bedbug that desires to travel along with you, you will be ready to cash in on even more savings on your next adventure.

5 Unusual Things to do in Sydney

Sydney, Australia offers many interesting sites to see and wonderful things to do. It also offers some unusual experiences for the traveller that just can’t be done anywhere else and will be remembered forever.

    Whale Chasing

Whales migrate by the coast of Sydney every year and whale watching boats that are fast and manoeuvrableare available mid-May to the end of November. The boats provide complementary coffee, tea and small snacks and some have a snack bar on board from which to purchase food. The boats have both indoor and outdoor decks from which to watch the whales as they swim through the water and jump through the air. Humpback whales are the type of whale seen in Sydney Harbor. Bring a camera to take pictures because the whales usually come very close to the boats. Also bring some warm clothing because it gets a little chilly during this time in Sydney, especially on the water.

    Shark Diving

For those that want a little more danger in their lives, shark diving at the Shark Dive Extreme at Oceanworld Manly might be just the thing. Even those who have never donned a wetsuit before can participate in the 30 minute dive as instructors teach how to dive and use equipment. Certified divers with certification cards with them can skip this part. Grey Nurse sharks are ferocious looking, but they actually only eat fish. These are the types of sharks featured in the dive along with some really big stingrays, sea turtles and other local fish. Medical restrictions apply so check to see if it safe to dive before purchasing tickets. Staff will take photos for purchase or friends and family can take pictures from outside the tanks in the viewing tunnel.

Making the Most out of Your Next Trip

Ah, summer. The bitter grasp of the cold and dark giving way to sunshine and light. With it comes the itch to get out and travel; to see the world. But before you throw your hastily packed bags into the trunk of your car and speed off to the airport, take a moment and carefully consider what you are about to do.

Packing is a crucial step in the success of a vacation. Do so correctly, and you can look forward to a relaxing and invigorating adventure. Pack poorly, and you will find yourself in a fit of anger and frustration as you sit in an Italian airport looking for someone that speaks enough of your language to help you find your lost suitcase. The key is to pack light, and pack efficiently. Bring tough clothing that can handle several days of abuse. If you’re worried about something getting stained or torn, leave it behind. Bring that ragged Reebok t-shirt that’s been in the closet since 1986. If you’ve got a solid, comfortable pair of shoes and a few pairs of durable shirts and pants, you should be able to backpack through Europe for a month. The idea isn’t to look your best or show off your keen fashion sense; it is to keep yourself warm/cool while you explore new and exciting places around the world.
Traveling is about new experiences. Visiting places you’ve never seen before, seeing sights and smelling smells that are foreign to you. If you find yourself in line at McDonald’s on a trip to Europe, you’re doing it wrong. When you visit a country different from your own, you are taking part in their culture, their traditions, and their way of life. The idea is welcome it, setting aside what you are familiar with. Don’t bring any predispositions with you. Be willing to do things that are otherwise alien to you. By refusing the culture you are visiting, you are hurting yourself and insulting the place you are visiting. It is a lose-lose situation. Say yes to things you would otherwise say no to. Eat foods that you would otherwise never even consider at home. Embrace the differences between your native surroundings and the exotic places you visit.

And when you go about picking a place to vacation, never use a travel guide. Don’t use it to pick a destination, and don’t use it to decide what to fill your days with upon choosing a destination. Travel guides lead you to the places that are the opposite of what you should be looking for. Typically a guide book will lead you to traps designed to manufacture the sensation of traveling, rather than to the places where you can actually experience those sensations. Why spend such money, travel so many miles, and endure such as hassle just to go shopping in stores for things you don’t even really want or need with people that you saw at the airport when you left? If that is what you are looking for, go to the mall. When you travel, explore. Pick a destination that genuinely interests you. You don’t need to take guided tours on open-topped buses to enjoy a new place. Exist within it. Discover it for yourself.

It is an exercise in leaving your comfort zone to travel in such a fashion. Cruises and tour buses are designed to be safe and easy ways to get some nice pictures and look around at pretty scenery without having to risk getting lost in a county with signs that have no English on them. It takes a bit of courage to step out into a new place and navigate your way through it. And yet it is also so much more rewarding and beneficially to experience something new and different and to gain a greater understanding and sympathy for the places beyond our local walls. Take it from the great philosopher, Bilbo Baggins, “It’s a dangerous business, going out of your door. You step into the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there is no knowing where you might be swept off to.”
Written by the marketing department for Los Angeles car accident lawyers, The Consumers’ Law Group
